7th Grade Math Update

Hello Parents!

I did not intend to be out multiple days this week and set correction deadlines for this Friday. I am going to move the deadline to NEXT Friday 3/10.

I know I had a lot of students ask about absent work and corrections and I intended to be at school today and tomorrow but this didn't work out. If they could hold off until Friday I would really appreciate that.

I apologize for the inconvenience in this matter but really appreciate your understanding.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Thank you,

Ms. Jewell

New Semester Update

Good Afternoon Parents!

I hope you and the students had a nice relaxing break!

We have come back for a few weeks now and there are some upcoming events and announcements.

1. Students no longer need to bring their textbooks or their assignment books to school. (Wahoo!) They may have homework in their books but as far as classwork is concerned, most of the activities are hands-on or a little different than what is in the book. They DO still need their math notebook every day.

2. Students have an assessment Friday on Two-Step Equations and Inequalities. Corrections will be available in the near future. They will also have a Notebook Check. Regulars are checking pages 61-71 and Honors are checking pages 55-65. Each of these pages needs a title, page number and the page completed. If there is a handout on one of the pages, it must be taped, stapled or glued in in order to receive credit. Lastly, students tend to forget to update their table of contents. This is posted in my room if they need to see it again.

3. Last week students needed to complete IXL S.6. I will be putting the scores in the grade book this week. If your child received a low score they are always able to make it up at any time. This can be done at home. If they do not have a computer, they can come to the library and work on it or come into my room before school, during lunch or after school.

I think this takes care of everything! If you have questions or concerns please feel free to email me!

Ms. Jewell

End of Semester Update (All)

Next Week

Lastly, students are filling up their notebooks. In January they need to have a new notebook to start the new semester. If your child started my class in the middle of the semester and has about 50 pages left in their notebook, they may keep their current notebook. However, everyone else needs a new notebook when we come back in January.
If you have any questions about the rest of the semester please feel free to email me!

Thanks,
Ms. Jewell
Moore Math Update (Regular)

Good Evening Parents!

We have one more week until Thanksgiving! The students have worked so hard this semester and definitely deserve this break!

A few announcements to bring to your attention:

1. Tests have been graded and students can start doing corrections today. If a student would like to do corrections, they may pick up their test from me. Corrections need to be on a separate paper. Students need to write the question, show their work, and box their answer. Last day for corrections is Thursday, 11/17.

2. If a student received a score of 55 or lower on their last notebook check, they may fix their notebook and resubmit it for a late credit score. I've had students come in before school, during lunch, or after school to get help on their notebooks and they are still more than welcome to come and fix it. Last day to resubmit notebooks is Thursday 11/17.

I will be working hard this coming week to help students get heavily-weighted missing assignments in the grade book before Thanksgiving break. When the break comes students can enjoy the time off and not worry about corrections, notebooks or missing assignments. I also understand some parents would like other resources to have their child practice math during the break. If this is the case, IXL Section R is a great section for Chapter 6 and Section S is a great section for Chapter 7 which will start next semester. If you have any questions please feel free to email me!

Quick Update
Hello Parents!
Just a quick email to let you know a few things:
1. Students did a GREAT job on the common assessment! In the district, 53% mastered the standards and all my classes averaged 74% mastered the standard! Great job!
2. I am continuing to offer optional corrections if students want to correct questions they got wrong. They need to come in before school, during lunch, or after school to do corrections. They can receive up to half the points back. The last day to do this is Tuesday, October 25th.
If you have any questions please feel free to email me!

Honors Update 9/19
Hello Parents!
Just wanted to send you a quick update about what's going on in my class!
1. Common Assessment scores are in Aeries. I am offering corrections and these corrections are optional for up to half the points back. Because the Common Assessment is on the computer, students need to come in to my class before school, during lunch, or after school to do corrections. They will have access to the assessment and the work they did. The last day they may come in for corrections is Friday, September 30th.
2. If your child has a low score in the Computer Category of their grade, they may redo an XL section for a higher score. They can log in at home or come in before school, during lunch, or after school. They need to tell me what their new score is so I can put it in the grade book.
3. There has been a good amount of time to see where the students place according to the standards. Students have also had a chance to get a feel for the assessments in my class. If you are concerned about your child being in honors, you do have the option to switch their honors math class to a regular math class. This will help a student who's struggling to have more time to build a good foundation on the concepts rather than struggle the entire year. We also have a waiting list of students who would like to be in honors as well. If you are concerned about how your child is doing I am more than willing to talk with you or email you about recommendations to help support them.
I think that's about it! If you have any questions please feel free to email me!
Thanks!

3. I rarely offer extra credit. However, there was an assignment that works for the student's benefit and for my advantage as well. If your child is interested in extra credit they may come and see me to pick it up. The extra credit is due Monday, September 26.
I think that's about it! If you have any questions please feel free to email me!

7th Grade Math Update
Hello Parents!
There are a few important announcements I wanted to run by you so you know what's going on next week!
Monday there is no school! Yay!
Students have a Common Assessment on Thursday. So we will be reviewing what we have learned for the assessment. Also, students will have another notebook check this same day. They are graded on titles, page numbers, notes, and their table of contents. We do update these every day but sometimes students are absent or are called out of class. I told them to make sure their notebook is ready by Thursday.
You will notice a quiz called a Quest has been put into the grade book. I offer corrections on my assessments for up to half the points back and showed the students what corrections look like during class today. Corrections are an optional opportunity for students to raise their grade. Corrections must be on a separate paper. Students need to write the question, show their work and write an explanation that tells me why the answer they chose was incorrect. Students are more than welcome to come in and ask questions about their quiz. The corrections are due Friday.
Another assignment that went into the grade book was IXL. Just a reminder, IXL is done in class and if students do not reach a score of 100, they may log on at home and raise their score. As long as the student tells me the next day they have raised their score, I can go ahead and put the new score in the grade book. Students have their log-ins in their agenda. If they don't have access to a computer at home they can come in before school, during lunch, or after school to the library or to my room to use the computers.
Today students had the opportunity to log in to Aeries to see their updated grade and take their quiz to do corrections. The only assignments not updated are the homework from this week. Otherwise, everything else is up to date! I know we have a three-day weekend but I also had some questions about students practicing IXL. If your child really wants to do some math practice, please feel free to explore IXL in the 7th grade section. It might help them to practice integers, fractions, and decimals before the Common Assessment.
I think thatís about it! If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me!

Beginning of the Year!
Hello Parents!
I am very excited to have your son/daughter in my class this year! They have been a great group of students and I can't wait to get to know them better!

I just want to welcome you to our Open House that is this Thursday Evening. Your child will come home with a flyer with more information on it. This is a good opportunity to see what goes on in my class and review some of the policies and expectations of my class.
Students will have their first assessment tomorrow during the minimum day so it will be a quick assessment. If your child will not be there, it is his/her responsibility to come in before school, during lunch, or after school to take it. I will also be checking their notebooks. I understand they will not have pages 1, 3, or 4 completed because I have their contracts. They will receive them back this week.
Lastly, I have a fun activity called "Facing Math" I do with the students. This year I decided to change some of the questions. I noticed there were errors on #'s 25-27. Some classes I was able to tell them to change those problems. Others (Particularly period's 4, 5, and perhaps 6) I did not catch the errors in time. I apologize for the inconvenience. In the Aeries grade book I have the correct version of Facing Math uploaded. Again, I truly apologize for the inconvenience!

Otherwise, I look forward to seeing you at Open House!

This is a miniature review of the semester final. Students have already done a big multi-day final review in math class this week. This is not extra credit but extra practice for those who are wanting different practice problems.
